Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
Overview
Applications are now open for the pioneer intake of the MBBS programme, awarded by the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM) and approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). This inaugural intake requires original or certified true copies of academic documents.
The selection is strictly merit-based according to the academic scoring rules below.
Admission Criteria – Pioneer Intake

Age requirement
Applicants must be at least17 years old on or before31 December of the academic year for which admission is sought.

Academic qualifications (A-Level or equivalent)
Pass in three subjects at one sitting, including two Science subjects at Advanced (A) level (or equivalent), with a minimum of21 points on the Medical Council of Mauritius scale (A=10, A=9, B=8, C=7, D=6, E=4).

International applicants
- Indian boards (CBSE/ICSE/other recognised boards): Minimum40% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Zoology in Class12, plus a mandatory pass in English. NEET/NEXT exams where applicable.
- South African Senior Certificate: Minimum50% in Physical Sciences and Life Sciences (or alternate science), plus a pass in English.
- Other foreign nationals: Qualifications equivalent to A-level requirements and acceptable to the University.

English language requirement
- Credit in English at O-level and a pass in General Paper at AS-level, or equivalent acceptable to the University.
- International students who do not meet the above must provide either IELTS (minimum overall7.0) or TOEFL (550 paper /79 iBT).

Selection
Selection is strictly merit-based and determined by the applicant’s academic score as defined above.

Registration
Successful applicants must register at the start of each academic year/semester. Late registration requires Registrar approval.

This is the inaugural MBBS intake at IIMMS. Candidates with qualifications not explicitly listed should contact Admissions for eligibility assessment.

Level3 Extended Diploma in Business and Management (ATHE – MQA Approved)
To be eligible for admission applicants must normally meet the awarding body and MQA criteria. Below is a concise summary:
- Mauritian applicants: At least five O-Level passes (preferably including English) or an MQA-recognised Level2 qualification.
- Indian applicants: Completion of Grade10 or Grade12 as per board regulations; English must be a subject.
- South African applicants: National Senior Certificate or equivalent with English as a subject.
- Other internationals: Qualifications equivalent to five O-Level/GCSE passes acceptable to ATHE and MQA.
- Non-standard entry (RPL): Candidates may be considered on prior learning and relevant work experience.
Age requirement: normally at least16 at entry. English proficiency evidence may be requested.
Entry Requirements – Level4 Extended Diploma in Health Care and Social Care (ATHE – MQA Approved)
- Mauritian applicants: At least five O-Level passes (including English and preferably a science/health subject) or an MQA-recognised Level3 qualification.
- Indian applicants: Completion of Grade12 with English as a subject; science background advantageous.
- South African applicants: NSC or equivalent with English as a subject.
- Other internationals: Upper secondary education equivalent to Level3/Grade12/A-level accepted by ATHE and MQA.
- Non-standard entry (RPL): Considered case-by-case based on prior studies and relevant experience.
- English proficiency: Pass in English at O-Level / equivalent; international applicants may need additional evidence or interview.
- Age: Normally at least18 at entry.
Entry Requirements – Level5 Extended Diploma in Health Care and Social Care (ATHE – MQA Approved)
- Suitable Level4 qualification in Health / Social Care / Nursing / Allied Health (ATHE or recognised equivalent) or recognised prior learning (RPL).
- English proficiency as for Level4; tests or interview may be requested for international applicants.
- Age & suitability: normally at least18, with interest/experience in health/social care and commitment to leadership and professional development.
- Applicants may be required to provide certified copies of academic and professional documents for final admission decisions.
